Jojoba Oil- Simmondsia Chinensis
This clear Jojoba oil is not really an oil at all. It is actually a liquid wax ester from the nuts of the Jojoba plant (Simmondsia Chinensis). It is native to the Southwestern US.
Liquid Jojoba oil, being a wax ester, does not contain triglycerides and has an indefinite shelf life. This clear version of the oil goes through an extra filtering process to remove the golden color that is present in unfiltered Jojoba oil.
Jojoba oil will surprise you because it absorbs into the skin completely and leaves the skin feeling silky and not at all oily or greasy. This characteristic makes it especially valuable for use as a carrier oil for essential oils. When essential oils are mixed into the Jojoba carrier oil the essential oils get absorbed into the skin as well.
The great advantage of this clear Jojoba oil is that it doesn’t contain the golden color of the unfiltered oil, so it is less likely to stain sheets.
Jojoba oil is fantastic as an emollient, so it has properties that help to clear and condition the skin. It is also great for use on the hair and scalp.
You should use Jojoba oil sparingly until you find out how it works with your skin type. A good way to test it is to put a few drops of the oil on the back of your hand and rub it in. You will note the Jojoba oil should completely absorb into the skin. This is how it works to soften and condition the skin. The oil can be used on rough skin such as the elbows and heels and is great for an all-body skin conditioner applied after bathing. Simply apply the oil while you are still wet, or after patting your skin dry while it is still moist.
