Lime Essential Oil- Citrus aurantifolia
Lime Essential Oil (Citrus aurantifolia) from Mexico is 100% Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil produced through steam distillation. It has a light, fresh, lime-peel aroma and is the only citrus oil we carry that is distilled rather than extracted by cold pressing.
Some people prefer distilled lime oil to expressed because the distilled oil is not phototoxic while the cold-pressed essential oil is. The aroma is light and fresh and has been described as “bright”, “refreshing” and “uplifting”. Aromatically, Lime essential oil blends well with other citrus oils and with lavender, rosemary, and neroli. While I personally prefer expressed Lime oil for aromatherapy, many perfumers use distilled lime essential oil in order to avoid potential problems with phototoxicity.
Lime fruit has often been used in place of Lemon fruit in many traditional practices and even in some cooking applications and it shares many qualities with Lemon fruit, although the aroma is very different. Both Lime and Lemon fruit have been used at times in the past for infections, poor appetite, sore throats, and colds
